TRAINING UNIT

(Lt. Matt Forsyth)

The LaFollette Police Department Training Unit is responsible for maintaining the compliance of all POST (peace Officers Standards and Training) standards as it applies to both the department and each individual officer. Following the successful completion of a basic academy, uniformed officers are required to attend a 40 hours of in-service training annually. Specialized training is also provided to officers in order to keep them current with the changing trends of policing. Though much of an officers training focuses on driving, firearms, and officer survival skills, LPD places a significant emphasis on community policing. To help achieve this purpose, officers receive training in areas like conflict resolution, interpersonal communication, and problem solving. Members of the training unit constantly strive to ensure that officers acquire the training needed to help them achieve success in addressing the needs of the community.
