Department Services
Patrol Division
The Patrol Division performs the primary police functions for the LaFollette Police Department. Officers assigned to this division respond in uniform to citizen concerns. The division's patrol core responsibility is the prevention and deterrence of criminal activity and to provide day-to-day police service to the citizens.
The uniformed officers of Patrol are highly trained. Patrol officers must be knowledgeable and proficient at a variety of tasks. Each uniformed officer has successfully completed a Tennessee certified POST or Peace Officer Standards and Training Academy along with other course of professional development. Officers assigned to this division are the most visible symbols of all city services and considered the foundations on which other police services are delivered.
K-9 Unit
The LaFollette Police Department K9 Unit is highly trained and authorized to respond as needed. The general public often considers a police dog as only being trained to pursue and attack a suspect at the command of the officer or handler. Truthfully, to pursue and to attack are just two of the many jobs that the LaFollette Police Departments K9 is prepared for. The K9 Unit is also called upon to search buildings for potential suspects. Through its keen sense of hearing and smell, the police dog serves as an excellent tool for such task. Many K9's are trained to detect concealed explosives. This allows them to be effectively used in large venues such as sporting events, large gatherings, and school events. "Chuck" Morris also has extensive training in locating and tracking, which aids in the location of missing persons or those that accidentally wonder off such as Alzheimer's patients.
Criminal Investigations Unit
The Criminal Investigations Unit is responsible for performing the investigative functions of the LaFollette Police Department. This unit is comprised of specialist's task with responding to crime scenes, and investigating cases referred by the Patrol Division.
Cases are reviewed for solvability factors. Following that review, an investigator is assigned for follow-up to the case. Investigators conduct interviews and lawful searches during an investigation to gather information or evidence useful in reconstructing the occurrence or circumstances of an illegal act. The primary duties of an Investigator include: the apprehension of offenders, recovery of stolen property, preparation of cases for court prosecutions, and presentation of evidence in court cases.

Training Unit
The LaFollette Police Department Training Unit is responsible for maintaining the compliance of all POST (peace Officers Standards and Training) standards as it applies to both the department and each individual officer. Following the successful completion of a basic academy, uniformed officers are required to attend a 40 hours of in-service training annually. Specialized training is also provided to officers in order to keep them current with the changing trends of policing. Though much of an officers training focuses on driving, firearms, and officer survival skills, LPD places a significant emphasis on community policing. To help achieve this purpose, officers receive training in areas like conflict resolution, interpersonal communication, and problem solving. Members of the training unit constantly strive to ensure that officers acquire the training needed to help them achieve success in addressing the needs of the community.
